About Us
In 2004, a Music student at the University of York created York Carnival. She wanted to use the medium of art and media to create an event that could unite both the University students and the local community. A small committee worked extremely hard to organised the first ever York Carnival, featuring a range of musical performances.

We work closely with York City Council and over the years, we have not lost sight of the original aim of York Carnival and still aim to create an event which can bring University students and the local community together. Our Outreach team are involved with local schools and youth groups in the weeks prior to the Carnival, running creative workshops to make masks and costumes for the parade.

All of the organisers of York Carnival are students at the University of York who volunteer their time. We rely solely on sponsorship to fund the event.
