Carnival – June 6th
Hi and Welcome to York Carnival 2010, the team have put a tremendous effort in so far this year and we are all looking forward to the day’s events. This year is special, it sees the introduction of our new Youth Stage and more activities taking place than ever before, including giant connect 4!!!! With the confirmation of up and coming band Section 60 and performances from local groups, the Main Stage is looking great.
With the theme “York Carnival Goes Wild”, we aim to transform the city into a giant jungle, each area will have a ‘wild’ related theme and the parade will consist of every animal you can imagine.
This year sees a huge input from YUSU Volunteering: Student Action in the Community who are running Cub’s Corner in Kings’ Square, where they will be face painting and making lots of jungle themed goodies.
The Development of the Carnival
The Carnival was started in 2004 by a University of York student with the initial aim of giving back to the people of York. Since then, it has grown every year, and has evolved into an event which showcases the talents of diverse members of the Yorkshire community.
Since its inception, York Carnival has developed steadily to include schools, community groups, community and university entertainers and even Yorkshire businesses.
This year we wish to continue this tradition – it really is a fantastic event and can be enjoyed by everyone, no matter your age.
We urge you to visit the Jungle on Sunday 6th June, come and join the fun.
