Parade

One of the highlights of York Carnival is the parade which features local schools, youth clubs, community groups and university societies, from York and the surrounding area.

Leaving at 1.00pm from York Minster Gardens, the parade will wind through the streets of York, spreading the carnival atmosphere throughout the city centre. The parade will be ‘Going Wild’ this year with music, dance and costumes all based around the groups interpretation of this theme. This is a spectacle not to be missed!

Mask making workshops will be running on the day, prior to the parade, to give everybody the chance to take part in the procession. Check the programme for details of when and where they will be.

The parade route can be seen on the map below:

In the run up to the parade, several schools, youth clubs and community groups are taking part in free workshops provided by York Carnival to help them prepare for the parade. Activities will include making masks, costumes and instruments, and will be run by volunteers from both the University of York and York St John.
