The Bee Hive & Cub’s Corner
The Bee Hive: King’s Square
This year sees the launch of our brand new Youth Stage, the Bee Hive. This stage provides an opportunity for York’s talented young people to showcase their amazing skills.
Whatever their talent lies in, whether it be singing, dancing, acting, juggling, comedy, musical performance, poetry reading or even showing off their creative artwork, we aim to give them the platform to show it off.
There will also be a number of GIANT games and lots of crafts going on throughout the day, with York University’s Cheesy Pop Society creating a fun filled atmosphere with their library of pop classics
The outreach team are offering free workshops to help groups prepare for their performance and aid them with the confidence to get on stage. They are currently working on getting University of York societies involved, such as Drama Society & Dance Society, to help develop the young people’s skills even further.
YUSU Volunteering do Cubs Corner: Kings Square
YUSU Volunteering: Student Action in the Community is the volunteering sector of the York University Students’ Union. We run a number of regular projects with children, the elderly, and in the community. In addition to these, we coordinate college volunteering projects, and make it really easy for our students to give something back to the local community. Recent college volunteering has included clearing at York Cemetery, painting community centres and litter picking on Scarborough beach. To find out more about YUSU Volunteering, check out our website at www.yusu.org/volunteering
YUSU Volunteering will be working with York Carnival this year in a few different ways. Firstly, we will be running Cubs Corner, this is an area where we will face painting, putting on workshops and many other exciting activities. Our projects with children will also all be attending the Carnival on our big ‘Projects with Kids day out’ – they will also be taking part in some of the workshops before the carnival.
