Why York Carnival?

York Carnival and the City of York Council are dedicated to promoting multiculturalism in the North Yorkshire area. Through our showcasing of varied and artistc talent, we hope to bring the cosmopolitan side of York to the forefront of the the city's social scene. York Carnival breaks barriers between social sects and increases social cohesion in the local communtity, reducing the stigma attached to the arts with regards to elite-ism.

With large audiences, outstanding venues, and a reputation for excellence and ambitious young programming, York Carnival is one of the country's most pretigious cultural events.

It is a local affair, headed by a dedicated committee that aims to bring the York community closer together. Donations (either financial or otherwise) and moral endorsement from local businesses are vital to ensure its success – this is a day for everyone and we hope that you will wish to be behind us.

York Carnival provides the perfect opportunity for your business to market itself. Being York’s largest cultural event of the year, it also falls on what is probably York’s busiest weekend (the first May Bank Holiday).
